St Thomas More School

Overview

St Thomas More High School is a Roman Catholic bilateral academy school located in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, England. It caters for boys between the ages of 11 and 18 but has a mixed sixth form.

The school commissioned a new teaching block to be built on the site of the existing playground. Davis Construction South East Limited was engaged as lead building contractor together with Ingleton Wood LLP as architect. The architect specified integral blinds to be installed in windows in order to provide shading for the classrooms.

SGS Involvement

Davis Construction commissioned Anglia Fixing Ltd to supply and install the window frames and glazing. When the organization Anglia Fixing had instructed to supply the sealed units with integral blinds pulled out of the contract, Screenline UK recommended SGS as an alternative supplier.

SGS was able to supply matching blinds with improved performance glass. SGS’ technical sales team worked with the architect to recommend the use of specific coloured blinds to not only deliver shading to the classrooms, but also to significantly reduce solar heat gain.
